Tuning Your Guitar:

Please note:  Clip-on guitar tuners like the ones we use in class are not necessary for tuning guitars but they do make things easier.  They can be purchased online by clicking the following link.  Fender Clip-On Guitar Tuners

IMPORTANT: When you see this box --->                        Click Allow.  This makes it possible for your computer to "hear" your guitar.

Step 1:  Pluck the low E (#6) string first.

Step 2:  Wait and give the tuner a chance to settle on it's final answer.

Step 3:  Turn the correct tuning head away from you (to the LEFT) if your string makes a sound that is below the target letter OR turn the correct tuning head towards you (to the RIGHT) if the string makes a sound that is higher than the target letter.

Step 4:  Repeat steps 1 - 3 until your tuner displays the correct letter.  Move on to the next string.

WARNING:  If you are turning your tuning head and the sound of the string isn't changing then you are plucking the wrong string!  For example, if you are plucking the A string (#5) you must also turn the tuning head for the A string (#5). Failure to do so could result in the string breaking and snapping back in your face.
